Aviation Insurance

The danger of incident is no joke—in 1985, a Japanese 747 airliner lost its tail midflight and plummeted into a mountain, killing 520 in the deadliest aircraft accident involving just one plane. How Much Does An Aircraft Cost?

Finance Or Lease

Monthly payments are similar to a mortgage payment. Depending on the lender you can opt to pay less principle and more interest payments in the first few years of financing. Minimum monthly payments can get financiers around 2% of the principal paid in the first year.

You might be able to cover part or even all of the cost with a personal loan if you're buying an aircraft — especially a smaller, used model. Personal loans typically run from $5,000 to $50,000, although it's possible to find funding up to $100,000 through some providers like SoFi.

Rates typically start around 4% APR. Often you will be able to achieve a 20-year amortization with a rate of around 3-4%. Monthly payments vary on the cost of the aircraft but can be the best option to own your own aircraft.

That said, the Air Force deems the risk of a pin-related accident low enough that aircraft with faulty pins were authorized to fly to the maintenance depot to have them replaced. No mishaps due to these pins have been reported so far.
